A Milwaukee man is now struggles with heavy tumors on the sides of his face and neck after an unfortunate barber visit caused irritation to his skin. Keith Crowell says 12 years ago a barber nicked the sides of his head and instead of healing normally; thick scar tissue started to develope over the areas.
“I just want to be like a normal person,” said Crowell.
Crowell had the masses removed through two surgeries, removing 40 lbs of flesh. The growths returned, larger than they were before. The keloids now make it difficult for Crowell to swallow, breathe and hear properly. They cause him pain at night as well. Crowell says he uses baby oil and keeps the keloids clean with peroxide to minimize discomfort. Crowell has since located a specialist who can remove the tumors with a 96% success rate but his insurance will not cover the expenses for another surgery, claiming the procedure is cosmetic.
“I feel it’s not cosmetic. This is my livelihood. This is my life right here,” Crowell said.
A GoFundMe page has now been set up to help Crowell pay for the life-changing surgery.
